Modal fabric is a semi-synthetic cellulose fiber, often regarded as a type of rayon, derived primarily from beechwood pulp. It stands out for its exceptional softness, smoothness, and higher wet strength compared to regular viscose rayon. Modal was developed in Japan in the 1950s as an improvement on traditional viscose, aiming to produce a fabric that combines the luxurious feel of natural fibers with the practical benefits of synthetics.
